UNDOC+ Spectrum & the Undocumented Diaspora

“There is no easy way to define undocumentedness and no single definition that stands true across the globe. In the words of Jose Antonio Vargas, “If there are an estimated 45 million immigrants living in America, then there are 45 million ways of being an immigrant in America. Like all groups, we are not a monolith.” Of those forty-five million immigrants, and as per the Department of Homeland Security, eleven million immigrants currently residing in the United States are unauthorized.
Borrowing Jose Antonio Vargas’ logic, there are eleven million ways of being undocumented in the United States. Thus, to completely comprehend undocumentedness, and in the words of Federico Cuatlacuatl, one must consider undocumentedness a spectrum. To understand the complexity of belonging to the undocumented community undoc+ spectrum and undocumented diaspora emerge to tease out undocumentedness.
To clarify, individuals within the undoc+ spectrum have lived or are currently living undocumented, whereas individuals in the undocumented diaspora are directly or indirectly affected by undocumentedness but have not embodied undocumentedness themselves. Examples of the undoc+ spectrum are current or former undocumented individuals, while examples of individuals in the undocumented diaspora are children or partners of individuals in the undoc+ spectrum.”

Así, para comprender cabalmente la indocumentación, y en palabras de Federico Cuatlacuatl, hay que considerar la indocumentación como un espectro. Para comprender la complejidad de pertenecer a la comunidad indocumentada y para aprender las capas de la indocumentación hasta sus entrañas, se ha creado el espectro undoc+ y la diáspora indocumentada.
Para aclarar, las personas dentro del espectro undoc+ han vivido o viven actualmente indocumentados, mientras que las personas de la diáspora indocumentada se ven afectadas directa o indirectamente por la indocumentación,
pero no han encarnado indocumentación en sí mismas. Ejemplos del espectro undoc+ son personas indocumentadas actuales o anteriores, mientras que ejemplos de personas en la diáspora indocumentada son hijos o parejas de personas en el espectro undoc+. “

Sich der Logik von Jose Antonio Vargas zu bedienen gibt es demzufolge 11 Millionen Arten und Weisen, als Undokumentierte in den USA zu leben. Deswegen, um die Undokumentiertheit vollständig zu begreifen muss man laut Federico Cuatlacuatl, die Undokumentiertheit als Spektrum betrachten. Um die Komplexität dieser Zugehörigkeit zur undokumentierten Community zu verstehen, treten das sog. Undoc+ Spektrum und die undokumentierte Diaspora hervor, um das Undokumentiertsein herauszukitzeln.
Um diesen Begriff zu klären: Individuen innerhalb des sog. undoc+ Spektrums haben undokumentiert gelebt oder leben jetzt als solches, während Individuen in der undokumentierten Diaspora direkt oder indirekt von Undokumentiertheit betroffen sind. Doch haben sie selber die Undokumentiertheit nicht verkörpert. Beispiele des undoc+ Spektrums sind gegenwärtige oder ehemalige undokumentierte Personen, während Beispiele von Menschen der undokumentierten Diaspora sind die Kinder oder Partner von Personen im undoc+ Spektrum.”
